Refund Policy

Last updated September 5, 2026

The short version: ask within 30 days of a charge and you get your money back. No form, no reason, no conversation about it.

Cancel whenever you like

Cancel from your billing settings at any time. You do not have to email me, explain, or sit through a retention offer, because there isn’t one.

When you cancel, the plan runs to the end of the period you already paid for. After that the household becomes read-only plus export — everything you entered is still there, every page still opens, and all seven CSV exports and the full JSON backup still work. Nothing is deleted because you stopped paying.

The 30-day rule

Ask within 30 days of a charge and I refund it in full. No questions.

That covers your first charge and every renewal after it. If a renewal went through and you meant to cancel, that is exactly what this is for — the whole charge back, not a prorated slice.

You do not have to close your account to ask, and asking does not delete anything.

Outside the 30 days

Past 30 days, the current period is not refunded. Cancel and you keep access until it runs out, then the household goes read-only and stays exportable.

Three exceptions, and I apply them without being argued into it:

  • I shut Horizon down. Any time you have paid for and not used comes back to you, and you get 60 days’ notice and working exports before anything ends.
  • I removed something you were paying for. If a feature you relied on goes away mid-period, ask and I will refund the rest of the period.
  • It was broken and I could not fix it. If Horizon did not work for you and support could not sort it out, that is not a sale I want to keep.

The trial does not charge you

The 30-day trial takes no card. Nothing is charged when it ends — the household simply goes read-only until you subscribe. There is no auto-enrolment to catch you and nothing to refund.

How to ask

Email support@horizonmoney.ca with the email address on the account. That is the whole process. You do not need the invoice number, though it saves me a lookup.

I reply within 2 business days. The refund goes back through Stripe to the card that paid, and your bank posts it in 5 to 10 business days — that last part is theirs, not mine. Refunds are issued in Canadian dollars; if your card was billed in another currency, your bank’s exchange rate on the day may leave you a little short, and that is beyond my reach.

Please ask me before you file a chargeback

If something went wrong, email me. It is faster than a chargeback, it always is.

Here is the honest reason I care. Horizon is $5 a month. A chargeback costs about $15 in fees on top of the refunded charge — so one disputed $5 payment costs me four months of what that account was worth, and the outcome for you is identical to what I would have done in a two-line email. I would rather refund you twice than be charged back once. So ask. The answer is going to be yes.

Taxes and receipts

Taxes are refunded along with the charge. Stripe emails a receipt for every payment and every refund; if you need an invoice with your business details on it, ask and you will have one.

None of this replaces the rights you have under consumer protection law — Quebec’s Consumer Protection Act, its equivalent in your province, or the law of your state. Where one of those gives you a better outcome than this page, take the better outcome.
